Case Studies
A few examples of our capabilities applied on previous projects
Case Study:
New Coaches for Caledonian Sleeper (Serco)
CAF
Paul worked with a rolling stock financier to create the concept of new coaches for the Caledonian Sleeper franchise to offer to the companies bidding to operate the franchise.
This was a game changer as it introduced new facilities, including en-suite rooms, onto UK trains and supported the ‘hotel on rails’ service offering which is at the core of the Serco business model.
This project brought CAF back into the UK mainland mainline rail market as an OEM following an absence of 15 years.
Case Study:
New vehicles for London Underground (Circle Line)
Bombardier
Following the London bombings in 2007, 2 vehicles on Circle Line were damaged beyond repair. The Circle Line is a very intensive operation and there were insufficient vehicles to keep the fleet at full strength; Metronet who were operating the system needed a solution.
A number of potential solutions were examined, from accelerating the build of the new trains that were to replace the fleet, to sourcing donor vehicles from around the world. In the end the only viable solution, albeit it very challenging, was to build new vehicles to the old design. Paul championed the concept of building 2 new vehicles, from the initial idea to contract signature and project mobilisation.
This involved pulling together a number of stakeholders and the creation of a UK/Hungarian team and supply base to deliver this uniquely challenging project.

Taybourne Ltd are please to announce a collaboration with Renewable Developments (Wales) to develop rail and other opportunities at their site in Trecwn, Pembrokeshire.
The 1,000 acre site is rail connected and offers tremendous scope for rail opportunities in the first instance, from simple rail vehicle storage to address the immediate requirement to store off-lease rolling stock, through to maintenance, modification or end of life recycling and disposal. The site has further enormous potential to develop other business streams which take benefit from the site’s location, rail connectivity, easy road access and current and potential on site facilities.
These future opportunities will be heavily linked with the important areas of decarbonisation, renewables, environmentally conscious technology and innovation. The site is in the early stages of developing a green hydrogen production facility.
Constantly looking to the future; new business, new opportunities.
We are actively identifying and developing new business opportunities, both independently and with partners to explore innovation and new technology. Why not get in touch to see how we can work together to support your existing business and develop the future?
